Lime Kiln on Historical Register! The Polo Historical Society was notified that the Buffalo Grove Lime Kiln was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 20. According to the article in the Tri-County Press, the Buffalo Grove Lime Kiln is locally significant for listing in the National Register under Criteria A for Industry for its association with lime manufacturing and under Criteria C for Engineering as a self standing perpetual kiln. Listing in the national Register honors this property by recognizing its importance to its Community, State and the Nation. The Tri-County also reported that the Polo Historical Society acquired the lime kiln in 1985 and began clearing the trees, bushes, and debris around the kiln. The Society started restoration in 1992 under the guidance of Paul Graehling and has cost them more than ten thousand dollars. |
